  •  Bullies gotta bully (21+ / 0-)

Bullying and belittling are always Christie's first response to unwelcome questions or any opposition, aren't they?  It's what he does, and it's always worked for him heretofore.

Actually, bullying non-answers to questions about the bridge are better than outright, checkable lies, which is what he's been resorting to lately.  Christie's having to drop the bully act to make actual, factual assertions that can be proven wrong are a sign of his desperation.  He wouldn't have trapped himself in all those assertions of fact if he could help it, lawyer that he is.

      glory

Pedantic quibble: his phrase was "worked the cones" -  (minor irritant that both of OP's sources have it wrong: "moved the cones."):

“Yeah-I worked the cones, actually, uh, Matt.” Christie joked. “Unbeknownst to everybody, I was actually the guy out there. I was in overalls and a hat, so I wasn't- but I actually was the guy working the cones out there. You really are not serious with that question?”

Bonus deflection tactic: the subsequent jab at Dems Wisniewski and Weinberg for being "obsessed with this", "they have nothing to do" then exquisite redirect to 'why does Ft Lee even have 3 dedicated lanes? We should review that policy'.  Wow.

As a tactic, this was brilliant evasion + attack Dems + redirecting the reporters.  Gotta give CC credit, he's good at it and has used it well in his years as Gov. Until his underlings received subpoenas, that is.  heh

... he had painted himself into a bully corner.  If the question is, "Is it true you're a horrible vindictive bully, Governor?" ... and he answered in his usual fashion, it would just confirm the accusation and make people look even closer into his bridge connection.

Right now he has to go out of his way to NOT appear like a nasty bully, but as a calm, reasonable person ... and of course that doesn't come at all naturally to him.
