distinguishes a political ad from an ad "promoting economic development" which the money was earmarked for? Does inserting images of someone in the middle of a campaign move it from one category to another? I don't have any idea. If there aren't clear guidelines that were crossed, I don't see this going anywhere

The one calling it a "conflict of interest" is another Republican - Rand Paul. He certainly doesn't have any love lost for Christie as he refers to him as someone plastering "his mug" all over the ads, pretty contemptuous.  When's the last time someone has used the phrase "his mug" in the last 50 years? Sounds like he's spent too much time watching old James Cagney movies. What's next - spats?

    •  I think you're right, unless (0+ / 0-)

something nefarious can be demonstrated in choosing the higher bidder.

It's not at all unusual for governors to plaster their name on every public works project done under their administration.  In this regard, Sandy was a fortunate coincidence for Christie.  Promoting NJ tourism is a valid responsibility for him; but as the diary presents the circumstances, this one does small a bit more than usual.

Expecially those who have some hope, however slim, of being a Presidential contender  themselves.
