    Many on the left equate single payer with universal healthcare coverage when they really aren't the same thing.

    Single payer is just one way of achieving this goal but it isn't the only way.  There are alternative ways of achieving this even with private insurance which has been implemented all over world with success.

    Sure Medicare for all will be better than the current system, but it will still be one of the most expensive healthcare systems in the world because we fail to control costs in other ways.

    The point is to look at all the ways to lower costs and increase access in a healthcare system.  With proper regulation in the insurance and healthcare industry, we can create a system that has the same advantageous of single payer and possibly better.

      Also, keep in mind that insurers in Europe are non-profit entities (except in some countries that have bought into the US style of insurance, like the Netherlands, but they also have way worse health outcomes.)
