    had to deal with any branch of the military have you?  This process will very likely require his service records.  At the very least, his Discharge Papers...and not copies of them.  

    You think that cable company was picky?  Hoo-boy.  I hope they won't hassle you too much, but if you get the wrong, unhelpful person then dealing with the military bureaucracy can be the definition of maddening.  

    If you run into trouble, contact the Veterans of Foreign Wars.  Those guys have a passion for making sure vets get treated respectfully.  They will often provide the color guard for funerals if you can't get one from the military.  (Another honor that is every veteran's right).  They will be interested in making sure your veteran's remains get safely and respectfully taken care of somehow.
