    Of course, this explains nothing before late January 2009.

      on environmental issues.  But there is some racism underlying the state's dislike of the President.  I believe a lot is due to age, isolation and education.  This is an old state with low educational attainment.  They are willing to believe the FOX news claptrap about foreigners.  But eventually younger people with more education and more friends with different races and more education will prevail.

      The state is very xenophobic and opposes immigration as well- ironic since they have fewer immigrants than pretty much any other state, and many are highly educated professional people who do a lot for the community.

        Betcha dollars to donuts the younger people with more education who can leave the state do so at the first opportunity.  How else are they going to find jobs that require skills and pay real money?
