Bush's policies are destroying the volunteer military by keeping people in longer then they signed up for and by dragging back in people who thought they were out.

A lot of Americans have family and friends that have  put up with the extended hardship of Bush's bad policy.  They have had to help bear the financial strain of lost wages when their son/daughter/niece/nephew's reserve unit was called up to active duty for a year or more.  They have sheltered grandkids when a single parent was sent off to war.  The current administration does not respect its soldiers, and many have experienced it directly.

I grew up in a small town of about 20k people.  At least two graduates of the single high school in town died in Iraq.  They were quite younger than I am.  I never met them.  But their friends are my parents neighbors.  So it all hits home.
