  •  India should treat arrested equally (4+ / 0-)

but they won't. In India, how you are treated in jail depends on your wealth and status in society.

Unlike in egalitarian America, where it didn't matter that the woman came from the wealthy class, she got treated just the same as every other prisoner.

America has its faults but treating arrestees the same regardless of social status is not one of them.

This is from a former public defender - 15 truths about American justice.   Since I have not tangled with the justice/legal system here, I can't vouch for it.  His point is that this "equal justice for all" is a upper/middle class illusion.  The below-the-median people take a kick in the balls.

      Here is his truth #15

      Truth #15:

If middle- and upper-class American communities were policed in the same manner working-class and working-poor communities are—that is, if standard operating procedures, applicable criminal codes, and the U.S. Constitution were applied equally, at both the arrest and prosecution stages, against citizens of all socioeconomic classes—a substantial percentage of our nation’s criminal statutes would soon be appealed, repealed, or dramatically amended.
      •  why did I read that as (0+ / 0-)

        Americ injustice?

That's the best snark I've seen in days.

American justice treating everyone the same, heh heh heh.

Tell that one to 'affluenza' boy, to Hillary Clinton and every other connected person who engaged in vehicular homicide and got off without jail, to every black person stopped for DWB or who wound up in jail for minor amounts of pot while coke heads like George W Bush walked around free and was placed in the Presidency.

    •  i am sorry but i want to call your BS out ... (0+ / 0-)

this is a country of "stand your ground" ... where you can shoot someone and get to go home and sleep in your own bed

if you don't me to digress / Rob Blagojevich wasn't strip searched till he landed in jail ...

as more information comes out, this looks like the vigilante Indian embassy official pulled strings to ensure that the rule book was thrown at Devyani
