  •  Happy Friday everyone. (15+ / 0-)

Thanks for a great diary today. I hope Mrs. Obama doesn't have any botox or plastic surgery. she looks great as she is, and I'm tired of the youth culture that says only young is good, ya know? I'm really ticked at the academy for not nominating Fruitvale Station for anything, harrumph.

    •  Agree with you on both counts, blueoregon. (8+ / 0-)

While the decision to have cosmetic surgery is so personal and you should have the right do with your body as you choose, how else are we to smash this superficial idea of beauty if respected, beautiful people continue to feed into this media driven obsession with youth. Which, I might add, applies only to women.

Re the near blackout from the Oscars, the snub of Fruitvale and Idris Elba really hurts.
I know that Twelve Years A Slave got the most attention but for me, Fruitvale Station had the most emotionally evocative.
I cried during Twelve Years, I cried during The Butler, I cried during 42, I cried during Mandela, I cried during Best Man Holidays. I bawled during Fruitvale Station. After the movie ended I didn't have the strenght to get up. I felt like my heart was breaking. Ryan Coogler deserved at least to be nominated for best director.

In Mandela. Idris Elba just dominated that film. I knew he would have nailed the accent and I worried that he would have relied on that to carry him through the film. I need not have worried. He captured the essence of the great Madiba. He was Madiba. Admittedly, when it comes to Idris, I am biased but watching that movie, I even forgot who he was. That was how effective he was.
Two Americas. And then they ask why we need BET and The Image Awards.
