A British study of a "mere" 448,000 men showed an increased risk in colon and panc cancer from processed meats and that the high consumption of red meat led to increased mortality, but not necessarily increased cancer.  Google British meat study for details.  If you keep eating lots of meat you are risking your health it appears.  And you most definitely are not an environmentalist. Meat is a leading cause of greenhouse gasses, land degradation and cruelty to animals.  Sorry to burst your meat bubble folks.

    Disclaimer:
I have not eaten any form of meat for 25 years.

    •  What you just said contradicts the claims (6+ / 0-)

of diarist, who has asserted that the mere fact of meat consumption causes cancer.

Even then, you've misstated the findings of the study.  They found that high consumption of red meat is LINKED to increased mortality.  They did not find that it was causative.

Human behaviors often come in packages.  Until you can compare basically similar groups, adjusting for everything from smoking rates to poverty to local air quality to exercise levels, all you've got left is -

Vegans and Vegetarians tend to be affluent people with excellent medical care, a good deal of free time, and far less stress in their lives than the meat eating majority.

associations are not the same as causes. Too much radiation causes cancer. Smoking causes cancer. Its a lot more than an association. Sunburns cause a million or more skin cancers per year. Now that's a fucking association.....
