    BMI is (or rather should be) never used alone but in combination with waist measurement. The latter helps determine the amount of fat surrounding the major organs.

    As for the "plateau", STOP WEIGHING YOURSELF! At least you do not have scales at home but weigh yourself at an absolute maximum once per week at the gym and at the same time of day. For women that should be once every four weeks or rather the same point in their monthly cycle. Your body has natural cycles of water loss/retention, etc which can conceal any weight loss and lead to exactly the sort of disillusion over themselves that many dieters experience that you appear to be.

    Quite frankly putting the initial fast loss down to "water loss" is only half the story. The other half is the simple fact that you are taking insufficient dietary fiber to retain water when you start that "Atkins" diet. That's why you are back on it. It worked for you loosing a few pounds over a fairly brief period. Then what happened? You do not need to be on a diet, you need to change your diet.

    That last by the way is from the first in a series on loosing weight (not dieting) I was planning to do since I have lost nearly 30% of my body mass since April 2012 and I am now almost overweight rather than being well into the "morbidly obese" area.
