  •  I did the same thing! (16+ / 0-)

I realized that I was just inundated with all these groups' emails most of them, of course, looking for donations.  How did it come to this?  I realized that whenever you sign one of those "petitions" you're on the hook forever....I unsubscribed to every single one and my inbox is refreshingly clear of unwanted emails that I deleted anyway!  Freedom!!!

    •  Sometimes I think that the petitions (12+ / 0-)

are just bait dangled in front of us, to get emails for lists. It seemed like each one I signed had 4 or 5 'activists' emailing daily to ask if I knew about this or that aspect of the issue and ask for money.

It got to where I quit signing petitions, which didn't feel right, either. So I started signing them with an old, defunct email address. Don't know if this makes my signatures invalid - whether they check that, but it's working to keep my inbox useable.

On issues that I want to keep in touch with the group involved ( Maine People's Alliance - yay !) I use my real address.

If only there was a way to sign, but opt out of emails.

..drops you a line urging a signature on a petition and there's only room for an email address and a zip code and it's sponsored by the DCCC - It's not a "petition" worthy of the word.

They actually saved time and bytes and didn't ask for my name.

I finally unsubscribed a few days ago.
