  •  Well, that trains are derailing is not the fault (1+ / 0-)

of what they are carrying. The fault lies with old track, fewer personnel, inadequat upkeep of signal systems, etc. Mostly, as is the case with the Port Authority of NYNJ, the problem is a matter of focusing on capital and finance and discounting operations.
In part, I would argue, that's because the economics profession and their acolytes in the MBA programs have all taught that goods are more valuable than services and, ideally, service costs nothing at all, as was the case when the suckling was still satisfied by the teat.
Fact is that, while goods are liable to experience market saturation, unless the producers cheat and incorporate "planned obsolescence," also known as "failure by design," the market for good service, which includes entertainment and political representation and spactator sports, is unlimited.
So, why be a curmudgeon about the stars of the small screen taking a bow? If the Cons are correct and 30% of the human species are influenced by rewards to emulate behavior, why stint on the rewards?
Nobody forced anyone to watch. I didn't. But then, perhaps that's the point. The impulse to coerce resides in many a heart and can be expressed at no cost by chiding others for having fun.
