  •  Kasich has not pushed to the left (9+ / 0-)

He ceded on ONE thing — Medicare expansion. And he and his legislative minions are already calculating how to use the savings to give a tax break for the wealthy. You have just fallen prey to his false campaign framing, which really worries me. Anyway, he's got some big scandals bubbling under too. And a lot of us are working  hard to see he loses in November. Remember — he has NOT moved to the left on anything, and if he is reelected we'll be seeing abortion banned and right to work for less. Please don't forget this.

    Also he's a nasty bully.

    •  It's not only Medicaid. (1+ / 0-)

Many GOP governors (Snyder, Brewer, Sandoval) expanded Medicaid (I'm presuming you were referring to that and not to Medicare). He also gave the largest mental health funding of any governor in 20 years, and in general he came to defense of safety-net programs, calling out the "war on the poor" and speaking against stereotyping the poor as lazy. It is almost unprecedented for a GOP politician to say that nowadays. While it will probably be enough to win him reelection as governor, I wouldn't give him a shred of chance in the Republican primary. And I don't think that right to work would get sustained in a referendum (like SB5) so that won't improve his relation with the GOP primary electorate, even if he pushes for that (I don't think he will given how the last anti-union bill ended).
