Congress is only interested in is screwing as many Americans as they can to enrich their Wall Street friends.  It makes no difference if they are Democrat or Republican.

seems to no longer be the same stalwart advocate of the People who, from the House floor, proudly urged underwater homeowners to remain in their homes in the face of foreclosures during the mortgage meltdown in 2008 -- at least she still takes the vast majority of her campaign donations from unions -- and not corporations.

Which is more than a lot of Democrats can say these days.

authorized by legislatures. That's why they are vulnerable to being dismantled as has happened in Wisconsin and Michigan.

Telling people to stay in their homes was a no-cost prescription from a Congress critter. That is, it cost her nothing and got her confidence from voters for free.

The Cons don't just inhabit one party. Legislators who perceive themselves as rule-making rulers, rather than public servants, have little appreciation for the people governing and much incentive to deceive the voters as long as possible.

There is not a whole lot of difference between "doing to" and "doing for," which is how the major parties are used to apportioning the electorate. That agents of government are hired to carry out orders doesn't appeal to them, especially the ones who run for public office because they have few practical talents, other than the gift of gab.
