Just before and during the '08 acceptance speech with all that power and authority symbolized by the backdrop of ancient columns, and slightly thereafter, Obama made his earlier statements a lie when he mentioned "fixing Social Security."  [I was highly impressed with the theatrical backdrop for the night.  Weather cooperated and was nice and everything.  I have a theatre background, so I got all the nuances of the staging..., and laughed hysterically.  I knew we were in for four or eight years of illusions, lies, and doublespeak.]

Obama changed his story after it mattered and he was the official candidate.

Same as when he voted in favor of FISA '08 after that idiot Pelosi brought it back to life, limited "debate" to one hour, the House passed it, it was signed before noon, and hand-carried it to the Senate the SAME day (I watched these proceedings on C-SPAN, horrified). [Go to @55/54  in when William Binney starts his segment and talks about Pelosi having to "take impeachment off the table."]  The only reason the Senate didn't get to the re-vote on FISA that day is because most were campaigning and had already left town.  The following Mon or Tue there was a funeral (I always forget who it was - another politician, I remember that), so they didn't get to it until about Wed.  The Senate passed it, of course.  Even kos himself had a fit (along with most of the rest of us) and wrote some scathing FP diaries about how Obama betrayed us.

The FISA fiasco '08 didn't come back to the floor until AFTER Obama was the official candidate and just before the DNC convention.

There was no chance to vet another candidate by then.  We'd already had over two years of political theatre, and we were down to the wire by then and couldn't change our minds.

Three days after the disastrous FISA vote in the Senate, Candidate Obama told the religious reichwingnuts that he would expand and increase funding for Dumbya's 'office of faith-based initiatives.'

It was a bad week for those of us who think elected officials should abide by their oaths of office to uphold the US Constitution and the laws of this land.  Yes, that includes me!

I was set to do a write-in candidate.

Then there was RNC.  A worse shock.  Three sentences in to the Tundra Tramp's VP acceptance speech and I knew she was as, or more, incredibly stupid than Dumbya and could not be let anywhere near walking distance of the Oval Office, so I knew I'd be forced to vote against that pair of idiotic doofuses and "for" Obama, even though I knew his lies had disqualified him, on top of his lack of experience, and by then I knew this whole schtick of "bipartisan compromise" was bu!!$h!te (that latter became worse as the years passed; "bipartisan compromise" became the code words for "give the Repukes whatever they want").

The fact that an ex constitutional law professor couldn't even get the illegal and unconstitutional laws repealed during his first two years with a Dem majority..., well, that hurt.  They should have been on the table and repealed in full no later than 1 Feb 2009.  That would have been the sensible, legal thing to do.  Now the illegal and unconstitutional laws have been extended, are still in effect, and it "seems like" Congress is going to leave them in place long enough for us to get used to being without our full rights and they are just waiting patiently for some future time down the road to stage a coup (probably a corporate coup), omit a constitutional convention, and make unconstitutional and illegal "secret laws" to take away all of our rights AND habeas corpus permanently (all against our Constitution and Bill of Rights which make NO provision for secret courts or secret laws or secret legal judgments).  It's not enough to fix a paragraph here or there.  The 'office of faith-based initiatives,' AUMFs, Patriot Acts, MCA '06, FISA fiasco '08, and MCA '09 all need repealing in their entirety!

I really wanted to be terribly wrong about Obama.  [To be fair, I had already had the same impressions of the other "frontrunner candidates" as soon as I found out they would not support impeachment hearings or even investigations into the war crimes of Dumbya and Dickie.  None of the "frontrunners" varied more than a word or two in their memorized answers that were all uniformly vague.  The last political opinion I heard on a Dumbya/Dickie impeachment was Obama's, and that made up my mind not to support him.]  Unfortunately, my first impressions of Obama all those years ago didn't go far enough in knowing or guessing how far off course he would go as he continues to take this country on its crash course to disaster.  He may or may not finish the destruction of America, but he's moved us a lot farther ahead than I thought a Democrat would go toward totally ruining this country.

A couple of weeks after the above article appeared that said Obama did not support impeachment, John Nichols and Bruce Fein appeared on Bill Moyers Journal.  The show is still timely.  Pay attention to Nichols' allegory of presidential powers in the little red cherry wood box.

I'm sick of attempts to steer this nation from principles evolved in The Age of Reason to hallucinations derived from illiterate herdsmen. ~ Crashing Vor
