  •  Brooks blew it, as most people who say either/or (10+ / 0-)

do.  The world is awash in opportunity.

Obama is far from a great President, but that audacious confidence may be part of what keeps him going anyway.

Most of what he's done hasn't worked out very well, but I wonder if anybody could have done very well with the hand he was dealt.  Sometimes there is little to do but walk in, keep smiling, keep working, and wait for time to do a little magic.

With the context of the world in January 2009 in mind, it's hard to call him a failed President.  The country is, in some ways, better off than it was in 2009.  The long-term unemployment problem is a wretched stain on an administration that looked the other way while it was growing.  On the other hand, the ACA -- terrible a law as it is, giant handout from the middle class to a medical conspir-- umm -- industry that didn't need a handout as it is, addresses some real abuses by the insurance industry and establishes a national interest in the well-being of all its citizens.  That's a whole lot more than nothing.  Presuming a future Republican regime doesn't undo it (What was that? Fili-what? Sorry. Those days are gone), a true gift to the country that has the potential to shed it's ugly duckling roots and grow into a beautiful swan.  Just don't tell any geneticists.

Obama's earned a solid C-, with time to bring it up.

LG: You know what? You got spunk. MR: Well, Yes... LG: I hate spunk!
