Voices of the Civil Rights Movement: Black American Freedom Songs 1960-1966:

An essential 2 CD set of (mostly) field recordings of songs (and bits of speeches and sermons).  If you are lucky, your public library (or school may subscribe to the Smithsonian Global Sound Archive) which allows one to listen for free to the entire Folkways Recording collection -- including the music of the civil rights struggle.

What this album teaches me, is that if we are going to have an effective movement for economic justice, we too will need an effective sound track.  Listening to this music leaves me both inspired and close to tears.
