    home to Harley-Davidson. In the summer, it can be painful to be out and about, espeically when Harley is having one of their anniversary events and we get thousands of them. Don't know if it's true, but I've been told that you would be ticketed by the police if the muffler on your car made as much noise as a Harley.

      It's also true that almost every Harley on the road violates Federal and most states' noise standards. They must meet maximum noise standards when leaving the factory, but their mufflers are specifically manufactured to be easily modified, which is most often the point of a dealership "setup" process. Instructions are also readily available online.

      Whether done by professional mechanics or home handypersons, it is an illegal act to modify it for noise, or to use it modified. But just try to get your law officials to enforce the law.
