Through climate change, I have learned which of my acquaintances watch Fox News, listen to Limbaugh/Hannity/etc., worship Koch Bros, and vote RWNJ. It has been a subtle IQ test. The hard core deniers have less and less to grasp onto (not unlike polar bears), and they are confronted more ofter with rationale from every direction, even their children are rolling their eyes. I know that the real estate and insurance industries are the among the first to confront climate aberration, it will affect the migration of the human race to higher ground.

I was a member of the Rattlesnakes as a kid and we indeed had a secret language. That language has not been declassified, so no, I have no examples for you (but what do you think nine year olds talk about in private?). We would take the word we were hiding, think of its synonym or definition in a two word phrase, then cut each of those words in half, and join the beginning of one with the ending of the other. When two Rattlesnakes would speak, it would sound like another language in short choppy sentences and it would always end in uproarious laughter (because it would be about a girl's bra or something).

I gave up smoking completely and decisively, but only after mentally preparing for it. I was not going to fight my own free will to smoke, so I worked on my will power until I could easily follow my own free will to not smoke. Other less severe vices, such as minding other people's business or gossiping, I just naturally shed by reaching certain levels of maturity.

[note: my header Appy Polly Loggy is the Clockwork Orange code word for "apology." Just wondering if anyone recognized it. Here is a link to the Nadsat: http://en.wiktionary.org/...  ]

One of my wingnut friends, having had most of the things he believes in debunked (with little effect on his beliefs, though), clings quite fiercely to climate change denial.  It's something that's easy to fool others and oneself about.

That hot orange cover made it more fun. Our English professor (college) liked this book so much he bought our copies for us. Wish I remembered this one when you asked which assigned reading was a favorite.

I think it was brightly colored. It's probably around here somewhere, but finding it would require moving and shifting lots of books.
