  •  Beautifully written and beautiful thinking. (9+ / 0-)

What a sad world of hurt we live in.

I am in an apt. in NYC that is very cold right now because they won't run the heat often enough for an apt. to stay warm at these temps (15ºF). All morning I have been thinking about the people who are forced to be outside because they are terrified of going to a shelter or because they don't fit the profile Bloomberg developed for those who deserve help.

I think it is good to be this cold. I think that the majority of us in this country are too comfortable for empathy and although an apartment with walls can never be as cold as outdoors, it gives me a little bit of an idea of what that must be like. It also makes me aware of how quickly ones hands and feet can actually start to hurt due to being cold.

Bless all in the world who don't have shelter, food and love.

Thank you for this thoughtful, wonderful diary.

"It also makes me aware of how quickly ones hands and feet can actually start to hurt due to being cold."

I scraped my wife's car off this morning before I went to work. I had the scraper start in my pullover sleeve so my hand wouldn't be exposed to the cold and snow. It worked well enough -- even better once I positioned myself so my mane and back were blocking most of the wind.

Toward the end, both of my hands were hurting because of the cold.

Three minutes, if that, and my covered hands were cold and hurting from what I discovered was a seven-degree morning.

So many people don't have what we have. Worldwide. So many people who wish, this week, that they were in a whopping seven degrees of warmth compared to -45 or whatever it was in half of Minnesota.

"I think it is good to be this cold."

I think I will explore this later. I agree with you, and I think it's about more than cold.

"Homeless veteran" should be an oxymoron.
