  •  Good luck to you! (7+ / 0-)

Make sure you pimp this diary in all the front page stories, esp. the election-related ones, and New Day and all other open thread diaries you can find. There are quite a few of them and make sure your titles are very clear - don't be shy. Marketing is everything, even within a website like DK!
Not everyone may realize it's one of our own running for office. And send Kosmails to every vaguely related DK group you can find. Lots to start with right here.

    Title suggestions:
    - I'm Off and Running - for City Council in California!!
    - Please Support My Campaign for City Council!
    - I'm Running for Office in....

Modesty will get you exactly nowhere! ;-)

Thanks - my main specialty is translating marketing texts, ads and press releases, so I have some experience in how to make a product sound good - as long as I can believe in and support it! ;-)

It was so great meeting you and remembrance  at the last NN - please give her my regards.

    •  Mr. dks ran for a TX (4+ / 0-)

House seat back in 2006, after hearing Gov. Dean speak, challenging everybody in the audience to run for office, to not leave one seat unopposed.

It was enlightening, and fun, and very, very stressful.  We met a lot of people, and Mr. dks learned to be more "pushy", in introducing himself, etc.  Speaking at all kinds of clubs, district picnics, veteran's events, etc. was easy for him, but initiating face-to-face contact required a learning curve.  It seemed that this was the magic bullet, however, getting folks out to vote.  Even if they didn't care about other races, after meeting him, they went out and voted for him.  It was a 75% R district with a very popular rep., but Mr. dks got 34% of the vote.  Actually, he got more votes than any other Dem candidate in Bexar Co. in that election.

So, (as a pretty shitty campaign manager) my best advice is to introduce yourself to everybody, and leave them with a nice piece of real media no larger than 3X5 so it can go in a pocket; and seek speaking gigs as often as you can.

I strongly suggest you take this advice with a hefty dose of salt.  After all, Mr. dks had an amateur for a campaign manager. His spouse.
