      The Anthropocene can pretty easily be shown to have taken over sometime last century, if not earlier. M's comment, in that light, is entirely apropos as it refers to Palin's inability to see what's happening right now.

        We're going to have to mark a difference between the thousands of years since the end of the last glacial period (when the holocene started)  and sometime before now. If only to recognize the Greenhouse. Until then, we are officially in the holocene, meaning "entirely recent", epoch.

        I just hope we've got a civilization to give it a name, since it will be defined by what we wrought throughout the holocene.
