    that the blank's wad hit Gilmore's body. At closer range, that wad is enough to kill someone. But at 20 feet, it could have penetrated, but not enough to be lethal.

    But, considering the Mormon belief in blood atonement- the literal spilling of a murderer's blood- it's very likely all 5 rounds were bullets and none were blanks.

    That's a step up for Utah. In their early days, the condemned's throats were cut by an executioner. Moving to rifles was seen as a more merciful alternative.

    Right many are called, and damn few are chosen.
