Holding the 21st Congressional District is going to be quite tough this year. The likely Republican candidate, Elise Stefanik is very well-connected to the beltway DC Republican establishment, just like Steve Stallmer, who just endorsed Stefanik yesterday. Both Stefanik and Stallmer will likely receive boatloats of cash from the Washington Republican establishment and may even coordinate some of their campaign efforts together in the Saratoga, Warren and Washington County area.

We're really going to have to build up a grassroots Democratic campaign if we want to retain the 21st Congressional District and possibly pick up the 113th Assembly District this year. I'm becoming quite a bit more optimistic now that I'm hearing former Congressman Scott Murphy might run again. Scott Murphy and Carrie Woerner both could make a strong team to help get out the Democratic vote in our area this November. Now if only we could find a strong opponent for Tea Party wingnut State Senator Kathy Marchione.

I read something about Scott Murphy thinking about running the the 21st as well.  If he does, I think he'll be a strong candidate.

As far as the rest - I'm originally from northern SarCo and live in Albany county now to avoid the nasty Northway commute to work.  But every time I go home, I swear the area has simply become a bastion of rightwingnut nonsense instead of the moderate area I knew and loved when I lived there.  Honestly, I don't know what the hell happened - I'm still the same old compassionate bumpkin I've always been, so I don't think it was me that changed.   It jsut feels like the entire Glens Falls MSA went total rightwingnut.

First is Saratoga itself, and it's satellite town Ballston Spa which may be relatively blue, or at least purple, then there is Clifton Park - where I work- where it is becoming a huge suburban  sprawl, and home to lots of suburban Republicans, and finally there are the "hollers" up north like Edinburg and the like, which are as wingnutty as they come

makes no sense to me.  It is a town composed largely of unionized state workers - and yet, it's full of Republicans.  The dichotomy is, well, odd.

The funny thing is, where I am now - Bethlehem - is also a well-to-do suburb comprised largely of unionized state workers - and red, well, it ain't.  I dunno if you could even call it purple - to me, it feels like a bastion of white-collar suburbia blue-ness, and Democratic pols like Neil Breslin tend to cruise to easy victories.

That's part of the reason I moved here - it feels small-town like the GFL area.
