Our big northern city became a dual seaport in the 1830's thanks to the Ohio and Erie Canals.

Several Underground Railroad routes ran through Ohio to boat departures to Canada on Lake Erie. Oberlin has the first college that admitted women, and was part of the Underground Railroad and the college admitted Black students pre civil war.

The Important State was home to the eventual builder of Standard Oil Refinery #1 because we had reserves like the Saudi Arabia of those days.

As cool as it was that Einstein showed why the speed of light was always the same, it was 2 Ohio based scientists that first found out that it was.

Vulcanized rubber, Alcoholics Anonymous, Soap Box Derby, George Szell's band, single digit top television market for many years. Our flaming river was an important motivator for its next year's first Earth Day and the Clean Water Act.

Politically a broadly representative mix of rural and urban population, economy agricultural and industrial, still I think top producer of Presidents, no way for Republicans to take the White House without stealing Ohio.

Presently we have stopped civilization south of Canada dead in its tracks via our Speaker of the US House.

We are called to speak for the weak, for the voiceless, for victims of our nation and for those it calls enemy.... --ML King "Beyond Vietnam"
