    cells in the brain called spindles that are thought to be responsible for empathy in humans and some other mammals, such as elephants and whales.  I believe the gist was that the more of these particular spindle cells you have, the more empathic you tend to be.  I heard him talk about this a few years ago - I don't have a link to the podcast or anything, but it was very interesting.  

    If this is indeed true, I guess I got all the spindles available from my parents and my brother got none.  It's amazing how different we are when it comes to empathy and caring about others.  (Despite his nature, he's a democrat still - he's definitely not stupid at least.)
