  •  CNN Daryn Kagan Interview (none)
with SOMEONE - he was on the phone and typical CNN there was no identification on the lower-third but here is what he said when Kagan called O'Connor "MODERATE"...

Paraphrased caller "I wish you would stop calling her MODERATE."

Kagan: "What would you call her?"

Caller: "I would call her ACTIVIST"

THIS IS IMPORTANT - IF O'CONNOR IS GOING TO BE LABELED "ACTIVIST" - WE REALLY NEED TO MAKE SURE WE DEFINE HER PROPERLY AS THE "MODERATE" THAT SHE IS FOR THE AMERICAN PEOPLE

    •  O'Connor is not moderate (none)
O'Connor is no moderate.  She is a conservative, and our side is weakened whenever moderate gets relabelled as "liberal," conservative is relabelled as "moderate" and extremist wingnuttery is relabelled as "conservative".  If we let this happen, the majority of people at Daily Kos get relabelled as extremists (and they already have at places like CNN).  Scalia, Rehnquist and Thomas are wingnut cooks and extremists -- we must insist that the media corrects this mislabelling of political positions.

      •  I know she is NOT really moderate (none)
What I am pointing out is that she is being framed as an "ACTIVIST LIBERAL" by the neo-Cons!!!

Their framing is going to take hold if we don't dispute their characterization of her!!!

As an aside:  They have moved the goal posts so far right of center that she looks "moderate" these even though I am well aware of her conservative bent.

        •  Re: (none)
I wasn't attacking you.  Just a comment on labelling in general and an insistance that we should be pushing in our direction with equal or greater force than that caller to Limbaugh's girlfriend Daryn Kagan.

          •  That's what was funny - Kagan (none)
was really taken aback by the caller's comment and her Limbaugh connection was the first thing that popped into my mind - was thinking - wow Rush's girlfriend is getting dressed down for getting the "terminology" wrong...

In a way, that connection was what put the red flag up for me...

        •  Call her what she is: (none)
A mainstream conservative. She's not a moderate, but she isn't a wacko nutjob.

          Mainstream. People love the mainstream.

          •  I would call her a conservative (none)
simply a conservative - I don't believe in the term "mainstream" - that is a moniker devised to make you think that "everyone" or a "majority" of people think like her - and in this day and age you can't even say that about her within the context of her own party - evidenced by the newly minted neo-con label of "activist liberal" that we must refute...
