    as if you consider these corporations to be the primary perpetrators, and the NSA as merely a secondary actor being used as a pawn. I'm not sure I agree with the weighting you seem to be giving each respective entity.

    While I agree with the idea of regulating what these corporations can do with our data, the fact remains that giving them our data is still a voluntary action from which we may decline to participate if we so choose, as inconvenient as it might be, whereas the NSA's data collection capabilities extend beyond merely what these companies can provide for them.

    Addressing both is important, but the emphasis should be on curtailing what government agencies can do with data we voluntarily give to private corporations, some of which under the expectation of privacy (email, etc.), as these agencies can use whatever data they get, no matter where it comes from, to throw a person in jail.

    You won't have Facebook agents bashing in your front door.

    Not yet, at least. ;)
