  •  oh, yes that is a whole other ballgame for sure. (4+ / 0-)

No one has ever nor will they likely ever question me in that way bit I know a few people in your circumstance and I am familiar with those dynamics. I know a black couple who adopted a white baby. What they have gone through is almost unfathomable, including being hooked up in bracelets in the back of a squalid car, separated from their 2 year old daughter, held for questioning for 8 hours and then had their child placed in a temp foster home by CPS while they were "investigated'. THEN, having CPS lecture them about the nature of preventative policing for child abuse and abduction.

That's insane. And no, we've never had that happen. We did carry his passport with us with our names on it until he learned to speak english, though, in case he had a meltdown in public and we were carrying a screaming four year old out of a store.

      •  right, that is clearly extreme and not the norm. (4+ / 0-)

I wouldn't expect you had. I was reading an article about this grandfather here in Austin who had been "detained" by APD something like 8 times over a year when he was regularly taking care of his grandaughted. His son had married a white woman and they had a daughter who was very light, didn't look black at all. Even after they had all kinds of outreach to the Police and all kinds of action taken against the city, cops STILL would do this. It's sick.
