However, I think that the rate of serious crime continuing to fall is a positive signal.
OWS was a positive force and, despite the media having moved on to something else, the spirit of OWS continues to create an alternate, more real economy.
The subsidies for health insurance are, in effect, a more direct distribution of dollars to individuals over which the Congress has no control -- other than threatening complete termination as they do with Medicare and SSI from time to time. That's why the House is being prompted to take those votes against the ACA. The old guard, in ridding themselves of their obligations, have almost privatized themselves out of influence. The only thing left is the Pentagon budget and Homeland Security, which is taking the stuff the Pentagon doesn't want. And IT.  Electronic surveillance and data collection is Congress' sugar daddy. Unfortunately, the data industry is a horse that has already left the stable. Congress can't get a handle. Their effort to sweep up every electronic bit is accomplishing little but making them look foolish. And it was Congress that set this kerfuffle in motion and the President is sticking it to them.
"You wanted it, you got it."

Reminds me of the Toyota commercial which my kids used to finish off with "Toilet odor."
