a lot of jobs? Religious organizations not being exempt from paying taxes.

I'm living in America, and in America you're on your own. America's not a country. It's just a business.

After thinking about it, I wonder if it would make them feel they're even more entitled to a say in government than they already are.  I'd be satisfied if they just kept it to themselves.

There is no existence without doubt.

It's not clear that "anyone paying more taxes" creates jobs -- depends on how Congress would choose to use the extra money. My guess is that right now they'd apply it to the deficit, so no effect on jobs.

And it would reduce the money religious organizations have to pay wages, potentially cutting jobs there.

The more serious objection, however, is that it would allow and actually require that the government muck around in how religious organizations govern themselves. That has serious First Amendment (free exercise) problems, as government interference with religious organizations. The evidence so far is that the government does pretty well understanding mainline Protestant churches -- and very badly on anything else, especially those that look very different (such as mosques).
