    I actually knew little of his early life.  For most people, I suspect, Hawking has always been the genius guy in the chair with the funny voice.  (FWIW, I love the Howard Wolowicz impression of Hawking.)

    The bio, while not speaking much about what Hawking knows, was at least interesting about who he is.  He hasn't always been "that guy", and the show humanized him a bit, showing his emotions, humor, etc.

    I was glad that my science-oriented offspring was home so we had a 2-1 majority vote to watch it.

    You can't spell CRAZY without R-AZ.
