...Marie Antoinette lost her head to the masses.  It's similar attitudes and conduct towards the poor: "Let them eat cake" when no one had any ingrediants to bake one; let alone eat one.

Revolutions always start when those who have everything to lose, go up against those who have nothing to lose.  And those with nothing to lose, always win the battle.

Five to One, Baby. One in five. Nobody here gets out alive.

    •  Can we dispense with the French Revolution? (0+ / 0-)

Please.  It's just a silly comparison.

First of all, Marie Antoinette never said "Let them Eat Cake".  That was proven to be apocryphal years ago.  A lot of innocent people were murdered, including women and children, during that period.

Second, the French Revolution, like the Soviet Revolution, was just as corrupt as the regime it replaced. In some ways, more so.  The French Revolution lead directly to Napoleon and what was really the first world war. Before you glorify it, please recall that Citizen Robespierre went to the guillotine himself,...eventually.

I doubt many of you calling for this guy's head would have the nerve or desire to actually pull the lever to release the blade, if you had to look the victim in the eye,...even this guy.

Finally, the French Aristocracy was caught totally off-guard by the revolution (though they shouldn't have been).  What makes you think the current Oligarchs will be similarly surprised?  Before you plot your knitting, remember the Jay Gould's quote: "I can hire half the working class to kill the other half."  Or, you can hire all of the working class to kill the minorities and the poor.  Moral:  It's a lot harder for a mob to storm a Bastille that is defended by overhead drones, tanks, and machine guns.
