  •  I once worked with Lakota people... (5+ / 0-)

… on a dance theater collaboration that toured 3 African countries.  In Accra (Ghana) we interfaced with students at the national university. One of our Lakota artists on tour (Kevin Locke, master of the hoop dance and Sioux flute), gave a question/answer session to a group of Ghanaian students. He was asked: "Why do they call you "Indians?".

His answer: "It's a good thing Christopher Columbus wasn't looking for Turkey".

As part of indigenous peoples' response, German TV showed an animated cartoon, an alternate history where Mesoamerican empires"discover" Europe while trying to find a trade route to China.

Five centuries later the empires celebrate an anniversary. Descendants of survivors of the invasion counter that history is being falsified and genocide is being glossed over. The scene shifts, you see a protest demonstration, people marching under a banner: "The Chinese Peoples of Europe" — white people whose features reflect origins ranging from the Mediterranean to the Arctic Circle.

The Dutch kids' chorus Kinderen voor Kinderen wishes all the world's children freedom from hunger, ignorance, and war. ♥ ♥ ♥ Forget Neo — The One is Minori Urakawa
