... I love the show Vikings (within reason).  I have ancestors from Norway, Sweden, and Denmark..., and places in England, Ireland, and Holland where ancient Anglo-Saxons and Vikings invaded and settled.  It is not unreasonable to speculate that some of my ancestors may have been Vikings..., at least the ones who came after the berserkers and were farmers, traders, artisans, and the like, who settled down to intermarry and have children with the persons who were already there, be they Celts, Italians, mercenaries from who-knows-where, Gauls, Germanians, Anglo-Saxons, or Vikings who came before them.

This is what I said last year about Vikings.  [I'm too tired to re-do the links and copy the whole thing here.]

After 30-35 years of reading about Vikings, 50+ years of genealogy research, and since I got my first computer watching lots of BBC things about archaeological digs and anthropology and history which layers what my previous reading said, the nit-picky details about the Vikings are the things that can make or break a movie or TV series because the details determine whether or not I can suspend my disbelief long enough to enjoy the other aspects of the show.

I'm hoping Season II will be better than the first one.

I'm sick of attempts to steer this nation from principles evolved in The Age of Reason to hallucinations derived from illiterate herdsmen. ~ Crashing Vor
