    That 1960s song became a cultural touchstone, and I expect Coke intentionally tried to replicate those elements that were successful.  

    I think one difference between then and now is that xenophobia in the 1960s was focused on anyone clearly related to Communism.

    Now, right-wing xenophobia is far more broad...and the target of the hate could even be a U.S. citizen: Hispanics, Muslims, anyone not speaking English, etc., .... you know, about 95% of the world's population.
