I barely paid attention to the ad when it aired.  My brain switched to "another sugary Coke ad" mode.  I guess that's what I get for being a commie, pinko, immigrant loving liberal.  The notion that all of those cultures should be celebrating America didn't even move the needle on my outrage meter, and I had no idea it would offend anybody.  (I'm willing to bet the Coca Cola company is a bit surprised too.)

You can't spell CRAZY without R-AZ.

      the cake.

      :)

And I was thinking the same thing -- I was getting ready to go to work when I heard the ad off in the corner of my brain, and thought "hey -- that's kind of... interesting..."

When I watched it just ten minutes ago, I flipped my lid. That ad made me LIKE THAT SONG -- which is a feat. I have ALWAYS HATED that song, because it seems jingoistic and overly-zealously religious.

Now I have a new perspective on it.

      Thanks Coke! Uh... I think...

The lyrics seem more humble than that, calling up the ideals of freedom and liberty while quite clearly recognizing that as humans we fall short of those ideals.

I've lost my faith in nihilism
