  •  Their latest dirty trick: steal our contributions (0+ / 0-)

A number of strong (thus, threatening to the GOP) Democratic candidates for office, such as Alex Sink running for the seat vacated by the late Bill Young in Clearwater, Florida, have had their campaign web sites "cloned" by the RNCC (they are not even trying to HIDE this one) with the donation pages collecting for the Republicans, not for the candidate (the "fine print" that most people skim over says "donate TO DEFEAT this candidate" but they do NOT have an emphasis on "to defeat") the donor wishes to support.  This is not only a potential violation of the few election laws we have LEFT after Roberts et al, it is very close to being commercial FRAUD, no different from collecting a mortgage payment, allegedly on behalf of the bank, and stealing the money yourself.

So before making a contribution on a candidate's web site, be sure you really ARE on the candidate's web site.  Fortunately, Google's phishing alert, if you have it, has begun flagging some of these phony sites as phishing sites.  Keep reporting any you find to Google at http://www.google.com/... and report them also to the US-CERT (phishing-report@us-cert.gov), or U.S. Computer Emergency Readiness Team (the latter may be able to initiate criminal prosecution).
