  •  Food stamps must be permanently extracted... (5+ / 0-)

...from the CorpAg Welfare Farm Bill.

There will be no rational, strategic legislating so effort could at least be increased for long term rationalization, notably ones with no budget impact, using tools like bundling, unbundling, linkages, triggers, etc.  to at least limit harm potential in future. Having the Farm Bill contain SNAP is inexcusably self-defeating. If you can't "do" then reorg so someone can "do" in the future.

    •  Actually, having SNAP in the farm bill (7+ / 0-)

used to actually help the program because the people growing food saw the program as automatic cash assigned to buy their products.

I'm going to venture to guess that the change in attitude has come because of the globalization of agriculture, but I am still trying to figure it out.

Walmart was complaining the other day that SNAP cuts were going to negatively affect their bottom line.  Not sure why their lobbyists didn't do a better job to preserve the SNAP allocations.

      •  Because it makes more sense (0+ / 0-)

to starve the masses who are already one pinky-grip away from falling off the societal ladder now.

The Waltons aren't gonna hurt, no matter what happens. Fuck, but this is sickening.

This all started with "what the Republicans did to language".

Food stamps used to be a way to bargain to keep farm subsidies in for the corporate welfare lovers.  But that has shifted and now the right, influenced by anti-governement teabaggers, want to cut farm subsidies..   The neoliberals, the Dems like farm subsidies because they're all for government money flowing into their states and to their supporters so they don't have any bargaining chip left but to cave on SNAP to save the subsidies.

So take Food Stamps out of the farm bill already and force them all to deal with cutting farm subsidies separately.

The Dem position on Food Stamps should be start by asking for an increase and come down off that if they have to, just as Elizabeth Warren did in asking for an increase in Social Security when everyone else sitting around arguing about how much to cut.
