  •  It will be a great day for the country.... (4+ / 0-)

...when MY generation of idiots like Tarkington, Limbaugh, et al die off.

Of course, there will be a NEW generation of idiots to take their place....

for any person to have his own political philosophy, including anyone who believes in conservatism. If he feels liberalism is against his better judgement, that's fine. You don't have to listen to him when he says things outside the confines of sports. I know more ballplayers who make him look like a liberal. He definitely does not know as much about politics as he does throwing a football. But his brand of politics works for him. Why would you put him in the same bucket as Limbaugh? Liberals should not be looking to denigrate anyone just because they express a different political philosophy. Acknowledge him for his past deeds and ignore him when he opens his mouth about politics. AARP is not going to be destroyed, ACA is not being overturned, we liberals are not going anywhere. Give the guy some slack. And yes I met him and found him to be a very nice man.

      •  Valid points, but... (7+ / 0-)

Why do I feel denigrated by his use of the word "liberal" as if it were a slur? I'm more concerned about the larger implications of a "separate but equal" mentality that ignores the real problems of the world.

        •  Maybe you feel denigrated because he is a rich, (1+ / 0-)

white guy who does not believe in liberal politics because he does not want to give up his money. He thinks liberals want to take all his hard earned money. Gee, you don't think more than half the athletes who have earned millions over their career don't feel the same way? Men who always believed in their superiority which pushed them to the athletic achievements they are most proud of? I don't know too many professional ballplayers who didn't feel they are better than their competition which relates to why so many ballplayers are politically conservative.

...how many "professional ballplayers" do you know?

It's kind of a stretch to conclude that, "...ballplayers who ...feel they are better than their competition which relates to why so many ballplayers are politically conservative."

Why would being a "ballplayer" make one more disposed to conservatism just because they have confidence in their own skills?

In this part of North Texas, "liberal" is used almost exclusively in a negative way. There have been ads for Republicans attacking other Republicans for being "too liberal for Texas," and it's a mentality that exudes from the suburbs. I'm just tired of it.

He's entitled to his opinions; I'm entitled to mine, and you yours. I could talk about my views on wealth and why I'm a hypocrite like many others, but all of that doesn't change anything.

but here's my 2 cents. Fuck Fran and the rest of the conservatives in this country. Every last one of them including my very own brother. I do not talk to any of them anymore outside of business. I find them to be self-serving, heartless fuckers. Each and everyone of them. I look at them like they themselves look at any person of color, Gays, anyone practicing a different religion, etc.
If loathing a certain group of people makes me a bigot or a racist then so be it.
I'm like the old guy they interviewed from Plains, Georgia, when Jimmy was running for president. He said there were three things he hated, "kudzu, cold coffee and republicans."

6% of scientists are republican. Scientists have no explanation why that number is so high.

It's not kudzu's fault that it's growing where it isn't supposed to be. Kudzu an Georgia, dandelions and rabbits in Australia.

And you can always pop that java in the microwave for a minute.

But republicons?  There's no fix!    :-(.
