me here. "Almost anyplace" includes Canada, Scandinavia, western Europe, Britain, Australia, New Zealand, most of which beat the US at delivering the American Dream of upward mobility to their people. As a whole they have better longevity, much more health security (you have more health security in Costa Rica for that matter), and a more secure old age.

Most Americans would be better off overall if they could live in many of those other places.

The bottom 80% now have declining income overall, having stagnated 45 years ago, and the government won't pass or defend policies that have 80% approval and more.

Yes a number of previously marginalized demographics have made important gains. But for the people as a whole, economic prospects and representation in government are much worse than they were 30-50 years ago when our progressively stabilized markets experienced the only depression-free half century in American history. It was also when the 80% held the largest share of family net worth in our history.

Costa Rica. He originally saw only all of the positives, but, now, he's there, and pretty much everyone else he knows is here. Plus the constant heat and the bugs.

I think that paradise is going to look like where ever we each feel contentment.

There can be no protection locally if we're content to ignore the fact that there are no controls globally.

    •  To their people, maybe. To a foreigner, not so (0+ / 0-)
