  •  The movie is NOT about Wall St. (1+ / 0-)

It's about a bunch of con men who defraud people by making them think they are dealing with a Wall St. firm. They chose to emulate a white-shoe investment firm. But that was a big lie. Wall St. has its issues, but not the issues depicted in this movie.

    •  Sure, they aren't all criminals... (0+ / 0-)

but they still made the main character look cool while he evaded FBI agents and warned other people what he was doing. By making these sort of criminals you are essentially becoming part of the problem.

      •  So what? (0+ / 0-)

The movie is not about legitimate Wall St., period. It's about a bunch of fraudsters who pretended to be Wall Streeters. You saw the entire movie and did not realize this, you thought that this was representative of the actual securities industry?

        •  You are stunning. (0+ / 0-)

I know exactly what Wall Street is, and I know exactly who Jordan Belfort was and what we did. I also know exactly what is done on Wall Street.

Very frequently it amounts to exactly the same thing. Trading something they know which is of now value, and collecting a cut regardless of whether the customer stays afloat or not. That's where the housing bubbles came from. At the end of it, virtually every big name on Wall Street was selling tranches as fast as they could because they literally knew they were valueless, and wanted to offload them on someone else as fast as possible.

They even admitted in emalils for god sake.

If this is the extent of your reaction, I think you pretty much prove my point.

Is the fact that they glamorize this asshole relevant at all? Mean anything to you?

          •  It was a very entertaining (0+ / 0-)

and well-made movie. I like good movies. You spend too much time worrying about their "message". Chill out and enjoy yourself.

            •  That should be tatooed (0+ / 0-)

You know, it isn't the actions of a Republican that finally swung me, it's your comment.

I'm done. Fuck it. We deserve this... the hell with everything. I short your house.
