Others constitute a pest that should be removed. I cannot tell which is which with this guy.

What we call god is merely a living creature with superior technology & understanding. If their fragile egos demand prayer, they lose that superiority.

With the south if the polls are that close always go with the republican.

LBJ knew that his civil rights act would lose the south for the demos. he nailed it.

        governor!

One of the stated reasons for the Revolution was "taxation without representation." Now we have "legislation without representation" or "representation without legislation."

A  demo gov from the south is as repub in their outlook on life and taxes as a repub can be.

five are Democrats - Governor, Lt.-Governor, Secretary of State, Treasurer and Attorney-General. Only the Agriculture Commissioner is a Republican.

Not to mention that Democrats have majorities in both chambers of the State legislature. And yes - they are frequently Blue Dogs....but I'd much rather a Blue Dog in the Senate than Mitch McConnell.

Purist Democrats. You DO NOT hold the monopoly on good ideas. I don't mind blue dogs in this big tent. I welcome differing views.

                •  not really (0+ / 0-)

America is not about different views. the process may be different but the nation is heading in the same direction. ie third world status.

Only patriotism and nationalism keeps Americans from seeing their future. all the signs are there but the power of the paradigm effect can overwhelm all evidence. beliefs are that powerful.

Religion and politics and  science are three prime examples of beliefs over evidence.

                •  Blue Dogs (0+ / 0-)

are not progressive.  They hold all the same views as the Republicans.  Having 5 Dems and 5 Repubs with two of the Dems being Blue Dogs pretty much sets it up as a Republican win, 7 to 3.  Every Repub votes in lockstep, and all Blue Dogs do is to ensure Republican wins every time.

I'm sorry, but when the other side is a marching gestapo of jackbooted thugs stepping in perfect coordination with each other, willing to pull anything to get what they want, refusing to budge on anything, willing to take the entire country hostage to force their agenda on the country despite the popular vote or will of the people, having people on your side who agree with that other side entirely on nearly every single issue is an overall loss for you.  It means the other side will always have as many votes as members AND a number of votes from our side, and we can always count on not netting ANY votes from them.  A tied Congress with Blue Dogs in the mix is a Republican Congress every time.  These are friends who are worse than enemies.  At least with an enemy, you know where they stand.

I don't believe for a second that any Blue Dog is a Democrat or a progressive at all.  I think they are actually Republican agents at this point.  I mean, if they really agree with the Repubs so much and so often, all the time in fact, then why not just go Republican and admit it instead of lying about your values?

Now if our opposition was made up of honest people who just have a genuinely different view, and was as diverse as our side, and was willing to really compromise and was able to change their opinions when presented with facts instead of declaring war on reality itself, your kind of thinking might work.  But we aren't up against that kind of enemy.  We're up against an enemy that comes to conquer or die, that does not want compromise, that does not give two shits about the will of the people, and you can't compromise with that.  Why don't we just try to compromise with the horde coming over the ridge, bent on killing every man in our village and raping every woman, and say "well, what if we let you kill HALF the men and rape HALF the women, how would that be?"  As much as I usually prefer compromise, you can't compromise with that kind of opposition or with those kinds of demands, and that is what the Repubs made clear with the last shutdown:  that as far as they are concerned, only a Republican regressive agenda should be enacted in this country, regardless of how the people vote.  And their gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics should clinch that for anyone paying attention.

I don't know if anyone pointed you to Altemeyer's excellent (and free online) novel "The Authoritarians" but you should check it out if you haven't already.  It might give you an idea of what progressives are up against at this point.

... just don't see any point in sending 'em to the Senate.

                •  That's what makes the TP so dangerous. (0+ / 0-)

A Republican can't have variations in degree of conservative ideology without being attacked by the TP as a RINO for whom "true" conservative voters will not vote.  Therefore, everyone elected under their label gradually moves further to the right.  Democrats do need to move to the left, but to do that they have to be "right" enough on SOME issues to get elected in more than the "true blue" states and districts.  The Republicans have already chased one of their best people in Florida officially over to the Democrats, and he is running against his (R) successor as a (D).  Since that successor has proven himself both crooked AND inept (he got a law passed to "save" money on welfare that is spending MORE  than it saves on drug tests with negative results), Crist has a margin in the polls.

But when Dem voters stay home or vote for third parties because they feel the Dem candidate isn't Dem ENOUGH, while Rep voters show up and vote, holding their noses if necessary, for a Rep candidate just to keep the Dems out, guess who wins the seat?

The governor of Kentucky isn't just another Repub in disguise, neither are many in the legislature, and their implementation of the ACA is overwhelming proof of that.  Try considering facts and circumstances beyond LBJ's presidency.

    •  God doesn't demand prayer... (0+ / 0-)

People pray to make demands of God.  It amuses me that people think their prayers will cause God to do or not to do something after he's already made up his mind what he's going to do or not do.

It also amuses me that people think God is Santa Claus and pray for THINGS.

I used to pray for patience.  I got more opportunities to practice than I ever dreamed of.

So I gave that up and started praying for wisdom.  That was 50 years ago, and I'm still waiting.
