If you have a bit of name recognition around here you could write a diary about hemorrhoids and get it on the recommended list. Shouldn't work that way but it does.

I had no name recognition here either. Then I started spending several hours a day preparing and writing diaries, and contributing comments here and elsewhere. And guess what - name recognition did not come instantly. It's hard work, believe it or not...

      •  I am DOING the hard work. (none)
And generally, I have no particular interest in immediate recognition.

But this...THIS is kinda time dependent, if y'get my drift.

The Independence Day Media Massacre and all...

        Like...tomorrow?

And thanks for the recommendation and encouraging words. I like your work a great deal.

I've certainoly notices your Newstrike logo around...

But as you say, timing plays a big role, and people do not care about some issues all the time, only when there is something big enough to rile them up. So find the best issue associated with your cause, and play it at the best time.

            big enough?

If the media does not cover this...it fades away just like all of the others.

      •  Oh (none)
I thought you just had to come up with a good name. Jerome a Paris sounds so sophisticated. Joan in Seattle is just so dull.

(Just kidding! You're right about building a reputation and a following. So many diaries. I gravitate to the writers who've interested me in the past.)

    •  So why did the feelgood diary yesterday (4.00)
      make the grade?

No, I think that it is deeper than that.

      It is middle class ennui.

      Bourgeois fake radicalism.

      All hat and no cattle.

      All chat and no battle.

Not even a little, tiny, eentsy weentsy yellow polka dot bikini's worth of real fight.

      And the right knows this.

They spit in the face of people like Small K kerry and he marches away down the bar instead of smacking them.

Why are they so afraid of Howard Dean?

Because if they try to do that to HIM he will grab them by the nuts, pull them outside and give them a good old fashioned royal ass-kicking.

And why is there not more support for Dean among the Party regulars and hacks...many of whom masquerade here as concerned lefties and then snipe at ANYTHING that smacks in the least of real, radically effective action?

      Because they are WEAK.

And/or because they REALLY belong to the PERMANENT Party.

      The Permanent Government.

      The PermaGov.

The fabric of hustlers, lobbyists, and do as little as possible pols (who DO know how to get re-elected) that is the REAL government of this fine country.

      Too bad.

They are stonewalling and do-nothing us right into the toilet.

      Too bad.

      Too goddamned bad.
