That cancellation should be based on political concerns.

If they suck, as most do, that's reason enough.

Do NOT cancel for the OPINIONS of the paper, i.e. - WaPo, because they do a decent job on the news side.

So, I dissent from this diary.

...you don't understand.  You don't get the poetry.  The "we are the world" empowerment.  The lack of paragraphs...
    •  Information IS politics. And opinion too. (none)
If WAPO or any OTHER news outlet does not adequately cover...and I mean adequately, not just some half-assed sop to the left...the various depredations of this administration, then that is POLITICS.

      It is POLITICAL.

If it is the decision...the opinion, if you will...of various editors and producers to gloss over the DSM, to not cover Galloway's testimony in the Senate in detail or John Conyers' various attempts to focus national attention on vote fraud or the DSM/WMD/Plame/neo-con nexus of lies that got us INTO this goddamned mess in the first place, then it is their coverage of NEWS that is lacking.

Where "opinion" ends and "news": begins eludes me. If ALL the news is not covered equally, then what is covered, no matter how "factually" it may be presented, is EDITORIAL in nature.

The aim of a strike or boycott in this jnstance is to apply a modicum of  financial pressure on the system, and to let it know that the left has HUGE financial power that could quite conceivably filter out beyond the blogs and right into the Democratic mainstream.

How many people voted Democratic again in 2004? 59,028,109?

And what was the estimated demographic of that 59 million people compared to the 62 million who voted Ratpub? Hard to find, hard to prove, but I'll BETCHA any ad agency in the country handling high end, preferred demographic stuff would take the 59 mil over the 62 mil in a NY second if forced to make a choice.

      My point?

HEAVY DUTY economic smack if harnessed.

Frankly, I don't give a rat's ass "why" people go on newstrike as long as the MEDIA understands that it is about full coverage of the news rather than the rightward bias that is so plainly in place now.

And I want it to HAPPEN.

      Yesterday, if possible.

      Tomorrow...for sure.

      Later...

Diarist is asking us to put our collective heads into the sand. This isn't the way to do things and achieve your goals. Learn from the DSM people, put constructive pressure on the press. Most of them are good people.
