Try the help desk. I can say with confidence the site admins understand the problem and the next version will address the slow load times.

Daily Kos is a big site with a high overhead and uses ads to finance it just as most other big sites with high traffic do. Your other option is to subscribe and turn the ads off.

Now I suggest you delete this diary which cover a trivial personal issue and won't get you much sympathy or creed around here and distracts from the other, substantive diaries you have posted. Just a suggestion.

Lastly, if you think blocking ad trackers will stop the NSA from tracking you, um, stick to medicine and avoid IT & CS, your basic foundation knowledge is lacking.

    •  it's not trivial (11+ / 0-)

it's one thing to have to deal with the NSA, another for this site to be providing information or the ability to get the information, or use the information.

At some point we have to say we choose to live a certain way. I'll call this ethics. If ethics aren't important here then fine, no problem, I'll go elsewhere. If ethics aren't important to the Democratic Party, same thing.

Dear NSA: I am only joking.

So the bills can get paid, then I'm fairly certain the Ads and Trackers will disappear and solve that problem.

So if this really bothers you, you have 3 choices:

        - subscribe and support the site; short term you turn the ads off, if enough other people do, the site goes back to no ads and no trackers the way it was back in the days of a few thousand users

        - don't subscribe, use whatever ad blockers you like and tolerate the rest.

        - leave. problem solved.

You are right; at some point we have to make choices and no one stops you from doing so here.

So, I encourage you to become a subscriber, continue expressing your opinion and feel free to elaborate your opinions on the NSA, human rights and other internet related topics just as I have. Really, if these things concern you, one option is diary the subject.

But don't think it's free to run a site with close to a million registered users and nearly 400k uniques and 1.3 million page views per day, that is pretty expensive bandwidth. It's just a fact of life for a site this size.

    •  I don't agree that it's trivial, and I don't want (7+ / 0-)

google tracking me either.  While the site might not be able to stop the NSA, they can certainly stop using google scripts and feeding google data about our site use.  Google had proven that 'Don't Be Evil' was only ever a marketing ploy.

I have one Google account I only use as a subscription base and I'm logged out 99% of the time.

This diary is useful to discuss the issue (here we are) but I don't think it will result in any immediate changes because:

        (a) site finances dictate ads. Hit the link in my comment elsewhere to view a traffic report for this site and I think you will get the picture, 1.3million + page hits per day is a lot of bandwidth particularly when there are so many LOLcat photos and crap hosted & served. Mods have posted diaries recently to discuss the fact.

        (b) page overhead is pretty friggn big here (and using a VPN sometimes in my case makes it even worse I assure you) but this is also a known problem that has been discussed and (correct me if my memory is faulty) something to be solved in the next release, which is now in the pipeline according to Markos recent Ask Me Anything diary.

When I inspect the HTML with my console I see several reasons and would just suggest/hope in the next version they streamline the page format and rethink the loading order because it is full of crap and more complex than it needs to be.

My take on Dkos 4.0 it is was (as is so typical) an overly ambitious project that way over-reached on trying to integrate social features and now needs extensive housekeeping and maybe some simplification.

    •  I absolutely disagree. (8+ / 0-)

Many comments here are very informative and interesting.
      Good read.

    •  Just curious if you ever commented in the daily (0+ / 0-)

cat diary about how trivial it is, or any of the numerous musical diaries, or some of the sports diaries I've seen, etc, etc.

      •  Yes, I have (0+ / 0-)

And people have made some comments in some of my crappy diaries too, including my first diary, which contained this polite suggestion.

I left it up as a reminder to myself.

In any case, it was just a suggestion, I don't control the content here except for my own.

      •  And another thought (0+ / 0-)

Just to understand where I'm coming from:

        (a) This is the 5th diary published by this new user.

        (b) It is the least substantive of the 5.

        (c) It has the greatest number of comments and the most debate.

Meta can be a distraction. Just saying.

Now, if everyone who posted here goes to the diarist's other posts to read and comment because they learned about him here, then fine, mission accomplished. But it hasn't happened yet.

        •  Excellent to know. Its good that Daily Kos has (0+ / 0-)

arbiter in the form of your good self of what is and isn't trivial and what is and isn't substantive on daily kos.

          •  Everyone makes judgements (0+ / 0-)

Including you. On this thread. Directed to and about me, even. (You just did it.)

            No problem. I accept that.

Now, perhaps you can go read the previous diaries s/he wrote, because they are actually quite good and reflect a lot of effort to present issues including numerous links to relevant information. Issues like health care, income distribution, etc.

            Very worthy of more attention.

Just my opinion, of course, but I'd say it's more worthwhile than our present discussion, so polite suggestion to forget this and go there.

            Cheers.

    •  And who appointed you Diary Cop? (0+ / 0-)

We have another, longer-time kosCop who still behaves as if this is DK v 2.0 and still makes these aWes0me suggestions.

The site's many scripts do bog down the little people's browsers, that should matter to TPTB and kossacks who support the site.

      Weird 'tude. dude.
