  •  i'm not surprised (33+ / 0-)

she's an obvious fit. a terrific group.

the one thing they're really missing is an expert on global warming and climate change. that's not greenwald's focus, but given how important this site will be, and how much traffic it's likely to get, i hope he brings on board a climate scientist or two.

    •  My thoughts exactly. Climate change is really more (3+ / 0-)

important than anything else at this point. Good luck surveilling 2,000,000,000 climate refugees, or even dealing with them; privacy becomes pretty secondary to, well, survival.

I wonder who it should be, though? Dr. James Hansen might be a good option, though his advocacy for nuclear is distasteful, especially considering its negative learning curve. Joe Romm is pretty firmly established at Climate Progess. Bill McKibben has been focusing on the divestment movement and 350.org, but he's not really a climate reporter; nor, for that matter, is Hansen. Though, because of its firm root in science (as opposed to social science), perhaps better than an investigative reporter would in fact be an advocate, well-rounded and informed on a number off environmental topics, especially climate change.

      Does anyone spring to mind?

fossil fuel production ... For a lay-person's read on those things I like Peter Sinclair, Gail Tverberg, and a number of old hands from the now defunct theoildrum blog.

So I agree, it would great if I could get that info at the same site where Greenwald, Scahill and Wheeler write. The blogs I mentioned are

      climatecrocks.com
      ourfiniteworld.com

I think Peter Sinclair might be a better teacher for us non-climate scientists but I could be wrong.

I have no idea how good Michael Mann would be at explicating difficult concepts to lay people. Most of us don't have time to analyze all the different streams of climate data.

We need someone to do that for us and say the main streams of climate data the we use are:

          1) This one with graph from year x to year y
          2) This one with graph from year x to year y
          3) This one with graph from year x to year y
          4) This one with graph from year x to year y
          5) This one with graph from year x to year y
          etc.

As of now, I cannot find that information. Michael Mann's book is about his political persecution. It doesn't provide a primer for the lay person. I'd welcome a book that does.

          Any suggestions?
