The first time I traveled by myself was coming back from Southern California in October 1987; the future Mr. Scribe and I had driven down to Disneyland, and I flew back while he stayed down there for a rail fan convention. (That was the first and last time he attempted to teach me to drive; we decided that I made a better non-driver.) In 1988, we traveled together to Chicago, Toronto and Boston; I flew back from Boston as I had to get back to work while he went on to (again) another rail fan get-together in West Virginia that time.

Since then, I've done a bit of solo travel -- to Vegas a few times (friend meet ups and for NN10), Chicago for YearlyKos 2007 (the precursor to NN), Portland for a knit and crochet convention, and assorted local trips to San Francisco and the like. I find that I do well the early part of the trip, but as the time winds down I'm really looking forward to getting home because I miss Mr. Scribe so much. I got a bit of the wanderlust from my mom; she did a lot of traveling on her own, both before and after my dad died.
