I'm a teacher and I think I make enough money. I made far more in corporate America, but so what? It was a soulless existence for me. Yes, I work hard and it is psychologically and emotionally draining work. And I went to school in the summers. And I do lesson planning and grade papers at night. And professional development year round. These are not issues for me. It's the job. And, many of my colleagues own homes, cars, etc. So they are finding ways to get ahead.

I also get lots of respect from the community, more than when I was in business. When someone says to me that I get the summers off, I smile and say "Yep!" If I could change anything, I'd change the attitudes of (too many) of my colleagues. Everything is about: what they don't have-- what they're not getting-- why do I have to do this--and then they file grievances with the Union.  In corporate America, they'd be replaced in a heartbeat.
