Our 2012 nominee was Lisa Johnson, a University Provost who is now more realistically running for a state Rep seat.

Our 2008 nominee was Jim Slattery. a several-term Congressman from eastern KS who had run for Governor and lost.

I'm trying to think if we have any celebs who could brighten up the ballot here in Wheatland:  well, hey, could either of those sapphic musicians from KS, Melissa Ethridge (Rock) or Chely Wright (Country) be enticed back home to the Plains to run?  How about a primary between the two of them?  Which would Tammy Baldwin endorse?  Ethridge could say she'd swing a deal to bring both the Dinah Shore Festival from Palm Springs and the Michigan Women's Music Festival here.  Wright - well, she's the more recent exile, so, she could slip back from Nashville a little easier.  Damn, sometimes I outsmart myself.  Other than those two, we got, what race car drivers and astronauts and that's about it.  Oh, well, there's some well-paid coaches, football's Bill Snyder at K-State and that basketball coach from KU.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness. -- John Kenneth Galbraith
